In another revolutionary move in Taxation & Returns, Government of India has given a nod to Integrated E-filing and Centralized Processing Centre 2.0 Project of the Income Tax Department to expedite the returns which earlier took 2 months roughly to one day. The Government has awarded the contract for the project to tech giant Infosys on lowest bid basis.
The project is expected to take somewhere between 18-20 months for successful implementation and once the system is implemented, the regime will become more tax and user friendly. The e-filing and Centralized Processing Centre (CPC) projects have enabled end-to-end automation of all processes within the Income Tax Department using various innovative methods to provide taxpayer services and to promote voluntary compliance.
This would improve transparency and bring accountability besides the faster processing of returns filed and issue of refund to the taxpayers’ bank account directly without any human interference. This would automate the whole process and bring the processing time to as minimum as one day.
The ultimate objective of the integration project includes faster & accurate outcomes for taxpayer, minimizing the human error and automation of the whole process with least interface with Income Tax Department.
